Rheumatology deals with a variety of conditions affecting connective tissues of the body, including joints, muscle, bone, the immune and vascular systems.
Examples of these conditions are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, back and neck pain, osteoporosis, regional pain syndromes, septic arthritis, gout, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), vasculitis, myositis and scleroderma.
The Rheumatology Department at Canberra Hospital is staffed by 3 Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), an Advance Trainee Registrar and an Intern who provide patient care, interdepartmental consultations and outpatient clinics.
