The Goldfields Community Alcohol and Drug Service (GCADS) has offices in Kalgoorlie, Esperance and Leonora, providing a variety of community services to the Goldfields region. GCADS is funded by the Mental Health Commission of Western Australia and is the result of a partnership between Hope Community Services and Bega Garnbirringu Health Services Inc.
Services include counselling, information, referral and advocacy for individuals and families affected by alcohol or other drugs, consultancy and referral services for health professionals, outreach and education services, and community prevention programs to address alcohol and other drug issues. All services support culturally appropriate practice and all services are provided at no cost.
The GCADS aims to offer a safe and judgement free space to have a yarn, hosting several weekly groups for those affected by alcohol or other drugs, families and carers, as well as those looking for support in their recovery. Please contact the Kalgoorlie office by phone or contact Hope by email for the current schedule.
The Esperance office offers counselling and diversion services and performs education and prevention in the community. Hope's Esperance team has extended the reach of its services in the south, providing outreach as far as Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe, offering Drug Diversion Programs and Cannabis Intervention as well as providing counselling, information and education sessions and family support groups.
GCADS programs in Leonora and Laverton have been established in close collaboration with local indigenous communities and designed to encourage healthy lifestyles and educate young people about the negative consequences of alcohol and drug misuse.
