The School Nursing Program primarily services the families and children in the 6 - 12 years age group. The key function of this program is health surveillance and assessment of school entrants, referral and follow-up services, early detection and intervention on identified health problems and general health promotion, education and support to families and school communities. Regional teams of nurses with expertise in child health and development deliver the programs to State, Catholic and Registered Primary Schools within the Grampians Region. The School Nursing Program also includes a Secondary School Nurse Program that has a primary focus on health promotion and education to address the health needs of the secondary school age population and secondary schools communities in 15 selected State Secondary Colleges within the Grampians region. The School Nursing Program is available at Department of Human Services offices in Ballarat, Ararat and Horsham and outreach services, as required.
