Low Vision Clinic - Optometry and Orthoptist
Vision Australia offers individual assessment, advice and training to assist people to gain a better understanding of their vision impairment and make the most of their remaining sight. Advice about using magnification, lighting and contrast is given to assist people to continue to read and enjoy recreational pursuits.
Some clinical services are bulk-billed, all others are free. Appointment required for clinical services.

Orthoptic out-reach clinics are available in Bendigo, Swan Hill, Echuca and Deniliquin.
The orthoptist is an allied health professional in both childrens and adult vision. Orthoptists are an integral part of the vision rehabilitation team at Vision Australia. The orthoptic service includes functional vision assessments such as distance vision, near vision, contrast sensitivity, ocular movements, visual fields, depth perception, colour vision and refraction that provide information and strategies to maximise the effective use of remaining vision. This service may include the recommendation of low vision aids such as optical and digital magnifiers, CCTVs, specialised lighting assessments within the home, school and workplace. Additional recommendations include scanning exercises and eccentric viewing training for eye conditions such as age-related macula degeneration and stroke . Information gathered within this service will support the client and their family and/or other professionals to maximize the visual function or enhance the environment to improve visual functioning to enhance their quality of life. Orthoptists are also Better Start providers and can assist families with their child's functional vision and offer strategies and interventions to maximize their child's vision which is essential for their future learning.
