The Older Persons Mental Health Service (OPMHS) located Level 2, Keaney Building at the Calvary Hospital consists of an inpatient unit and a community mental health team (available weekdays only). Their role is the provision of specialist mental health assessment and treatment services by multi-disciplinary teams of medical and non-medical clinical staff. Treatment approaches are based on best available clinical evidence. Persons are usually aged 65 and over with mental illness who may be experiencing psychiatric, emotional or behavioural disturbance. Referral on to another service or the provision of ongoing OPMHS care will be determined clinically with some flexibility in relation to age and complexity. Feedback will be provided in all instances of onward referral. Support, psycho-education and assistance is provided to carers and families as well as the Aged Care sector. Anyone can refer to the service but it is preferable that the General Practitioner is aware of the referral and provides a written referral to the OPMHS as we aim to work in partnership with the General Practitioner as the pivotal service provider. Consultation services to General Practitioners are provided. ALL CRISIS CALLS AND OUT OF BUSINESS HOURS CALL TO BE MADE TO 1800 629 354 (FREE CALL) OR 6205 1065.
