Newpin works therapeutically with families with children aged 5 and under, who are under stress to break the cycle of destructive family behaviour and enhance the parent-child relationships.
By participating in weekly, structured group and play opportunities, members are provided with the tools and knowledge they need to feel more confident in their role as parents as well encouraged to develop the skills needed to participate outside the program.
Members of Newpin can attend the program for up to two years, with participation at least twice a week, although members may choose to participate more frequently, depending on their needs.
Members report that after just six months, they have greater self-esteem and confidence. Many who complete the program have also gone on to further education or employment. The children involved also start school with improved social, emotional, and practical skills, as well as the stability of a home free from abuse and neglect.
Newpin is making significant steps in breaking the cycle of destructive family behaviour, and is greatly enhancing parent-child relationships in families previously at risk.
