What is the Aboriginal Respite Service?One day a week Aboriginal people are picked up by the St Andrew's bus and taken to the day respite service at the Kentwell Centre, Ballina. A normal routine is 10am Morning Tea and Midday lunch. Activities at the centre may include, T-shirt printing, sowing, cultural talks a movie day etc. On other occasions the bus takes people on outings to cultural spots, bowling, lunch, tours, educational talks etc.Activities are finished by 3:30pm.On two occasions each year attendees are taken taken on a weekend away to assist in transition from Home to overnight respite care, an enjoyable experience for staff and residents alike.Overnight accommodation. Should Aboriginal carers require some downtime then they can arrange overnight respite for loved ones through the respite service and staffed by Aboriginal respite staff.There is no charge as this is fully funded by the National Respite for Carers Program.
