Phase 1 Education &
Phase 2 Education - Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD)
The RHD Australia Qld Program caters for patients with - or at risk of - Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF) and those who have progressed to Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) who maybe in need of (or already have needed) valve surgery.
Secondary antibiotic prophylaxis regime is required to avoid recurrence of ARF and to avoid the progression of RHD, even after valve surgery has been performed.
RHD Qld Program staff are based mainly in the northern parts of Queensland. Where staff is able to, education can be delivered straight to the patient. In other districts, or in cases where this is deemed more suitable, printed education material can be provided to both the patient and/or the clinician doing the ARF/RHD education.
