The Midwifery Unit at the Mildura Base Hospital demonstrates a leading and innovative approach to caring for women and their family during their pregnancy, childbirth and the immediate post-natal period.
The Midwifery Unit of the Mildura Base Hospital offers a range of services all focussing on the needs of pregnant women and their families and assists them to prepare for the arrival of their baby.
The Mildura Base Hospital's Maternity Services Team compromises of qualified and experienced doctors, midwives, nurses and support staff committed to the provision of high standard of care women expect at Mildura Base Hospital.
Birth-rate: Our birth rate is nearing 1000/year and steadily increasing.
Interpreting Services: Available if required.
Hours: 24 hours/7 days
Accreditation: The midwifery unit is accredited as Baby Friendly. A Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) is an international project that aims to give every baby the best start in life by creating a health care environment where breastfeeding is the norm and practices known to promote the health and well-being of all babies and their mothers are followed.
The Baby Friendly Health Initiative's Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding are the global standard by which health services are assessed and accredited.
A 'Baby Friendly' health service is one where the mothers' informed choice of feeding is supported, respected and encouraged.
Our Midwifery Unit comprises of:
-- 12 bed antenatal/postnatal unit
-- 3 birthing suites, each with its own ensuite
-- 1 confidential assessment room
-- 6 bed Level 2 Special Care Nursery
-- Patient lounge room and courtyard

-- Antenatal Booking-in
-- Antenatal Education
-- Antenatal Services for Women with Special Needs
-- Breastfeeding and Parenting Support Service
-- Community Midwife Program
