The Radiology Department at Sandringham Hospital provides a comprehensive range of bulk billed radiology services to Bayside and Melbourne patients, both as in-patients and privately referred walk-in outpatients. It is one of the few Melbourne bulk billed radiology services.
The Outpatient service is open five days a week with provision for emergency cases. Services are provided to In-patients and the Emergency Department. Referrals from private GP's and Specialists are encouraged and bulk billed (for a majority of exams). Waiting lists for private radiology referrals are extremely short.
The Department has three modern General X-ray rooms (one with fluoroscopy), three Ultrasound rooms, (one fitted for Echo Cardiac Stress tests). The department also boasts new reduced dose digital Mammography and new CT Scanning systems. It has two ward mobiles and two mobile Image Intensifiers in the operating theatres.
Last year the department performed over 34,000 examinations across a wide range of diagnostic, interventional and therapeutic procedures. Despite this, the department still has enough capacity to rapidly meet the needs of private referrers, with almost all exams being bulk billed.
