Hospital in the Home patients are those who, without the provision of the hospital in the home service, would require inpatient care by the nature of their medical or social condition. Care is provided in the comfort of the person's own home. Patients are regarded as hospital inpatients and remain under the care of their treating doctor in the hospital. Patients receive the same treatment that they would have received had they been in a hospital bed. Patients may be able to receive all their hospital care in HITH or they may have a stay in hospital and then receive HITH in the latter part of their treatment. HITH nursing services are provided by GV Health District Nursing service within the City of Greater Shepparton and service agreements exist with external health services. Medical Case Management is provided by the HITH Senior Medical Officer or a community GP affiliated with the program.
