The main function of Ronald McDonald House is to provide accommodation for regional families of children with serious illnesses or injuries who are being treated at the Mater Children's Hospital. Ronald McDonald House also accommodates pregnant women who have been identified as being at risk, and mothers of premature babies at the Mater.
The House is located within the Mater Hospital complex and accommodates up to twenty one families per night in ensuited rooms.
House policy ensures priority is given to families with children who require ongoing treatment for serious illnesses at the Mater Children's Hospital and to families of seriously ill or premature babies receiving care in the nurseries of the Mater Mother's Hospital.
