BIRU offers assessment and management advice for those with an acquired brain injury in the broad working age group. Cases are assessed in an all day clinic on a Wednesday by the Interdisciplinary Team consisting of Allied Health, Nursing, Social Work, Neuropsychology and Medical.Collateral information including that of type and severity of acquired brain injury, previous management and ongoing treatment including that of medications is requested. The service does not offer a primary medico-legal assessment. Cases where the predominant presentation is that of mental health or substance use are best managed before referral.Other relevant medical information, including CT/MRI scans, EEG and blood tests, are requested. All referrals should be addressed to the Medical Director of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit either by fax or post.
