The Immunisation Unit is responsible for the coordination of the ACT Immunisation Program, which aims to reduce the incidence of vaccine preventable diseases by increasing access to vaccines.
Vaccines on the National Immunisation Program (NIP) Schedule are funded for all eligible children and adults in the ACT. Please see ACT Immunisation Program Schedule for details.
General Practice can administer all vaccines on the NIP to all age groups. Children under 5 years can also be vaccinated by appointment at Child Immunisation Clinics across the ACT. Appointments can be made by phoning Community Health Intake on (02) 6207 9977 between 8am and 5pm weekdays.
All vaccines used in Australia undergo extensive research and must be approved for use by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Before a vaccine can be licensed, it is tested over several years to ensure it is safe and that it works.
However, if you, your child or a client experience an adverse event following immunisation (AEFI), please complete the Immunisation Adverse Event Reporting Form below or call the immunisation unit on (02) 6205 2300.
