Black Dog Institute

The Black Dog Institute is a not-for-profit organisation pioneering mental health research, clinical services, digital tools, and educational resources to help Australians safeguard their mental wellbeing.

Black Dog Institute's evidence-based approach translates world-class research into practical solutions for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and suicide prevention.

By “evidence-based,” the Institute means that its treatments, tools, and resources are grounded in scientific research and proven to be effective in real-life settings.

Vision and mission

The Black Dog Institute’s vision is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. It achieves this by conducting world-leading scientific research and transforming its findings into accessible, evidence-based mental health solutions for individuals, families, workplaces, and health professionals.

They are the only medical research institute in Australia that investigates mental health across the lifespan — from childhood to adulthood — ensuring that our support is tailored to every stage of life.

Working in partnership with local and federal governments, schools, First Nations communities, and workplaces, the Institute aims to bring about lasting change in mental health outcomes across Australia.

What set’s Black Dog Institute apart

Comprehensive Research: Multidisciplinary teams investigate a wide range of mental health conditions — including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and suicide prevention — to produce insights that inform policy and practice, ultimately leading to better mental health outcomes for all Australians.
