As part of the National Network of Carers Associations, they are recognised by Local, Territory and Federal Governments as the voice of family carers, representing their interests in the Northern Territory.
Operating from offices in Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs, Nhulunbuy and Ramingining, their role is to work in active partnership with carers, persons with care and support needs, health professionals, service providers, government and the wider community to achieve an improved quality of life for carers.
Carers NT are inclusive of all carers and the people they care for, no matter their age, background, ethnicity, religious beliefs or sexual orientation.
Vision and mission
To enhance the quality of life for carers in the Northern Territory by providing:
- Quality service delivery
- Community development, education, information and awareness
- Advocacy
- Involvement in public policy formulation as it relates to carers
To have a community in which carers are recognised and valued as a significant asset in which they have access to timely and appropriate services.
How Carers NT can help
Carers NT promote awareness of carers with government funders and the broader community, and by giving carers access to services like short term and emergency respite, regular aged care day and overnight respite, carer counselling, music therapy, volunteer community support, peer support, emotional support, social support, advice and information, education and advocacy and other therapies.
Special events for carers are scheduled throughout the year, which is an opportunity for carers to relax and have some fun and connect with others within the community.
Carers NT also provide training courses, programs, specialised workshops and information sessions for carers that are facilitated throughout the year in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Spring locations with specialised staff at each of these locations.
These services can help carers to build their own capacity and ease some of the pressure for themselves and for their families.
