This Way Up

THIS WAY UP is a trusted Australian provider of evidence-based, on demand Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT) programs. These online mental health programs help to combat anxiety, depression and stress and related mental health conditions and improve individuals’ quality of life.

THIS WAY UP is a not-for-profit initiative of St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales.

Vision and mission

THIS WAY UP aims to improve Australians’ quality of life through better access to mental health care and to reduce the burden of anxiety and depression in Australia. To achieve this, THIS WAY UP provides timely access to safe, effective and targeted mental health care that:

  • Supports health professionals in their practice and the existing mental health ecosystem;
  • Safeguards and promote the delivery of high-quality, safe and sustainable patient care.

How THIS WAY UP can help

THIS WAY UP programs teach practical, psychological skills designed to help you manage difficult emotions, tackle unhelpful thoughts, and gain control over symptoms of anxiety and/or depression.

The self-paced programs are designed to be completed within 6 to 12 weeks and mimic the education, skills, and strategies you would learn if receiving CBT from a qualified mental health professional face-to-face.

THIS WAY UP offers a suite of 18 tailored programs for a range of mental health conditions (depression, insomnia, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), etc.). The programs are available instantly without a referral for $59 only, making it easier for individuals to access quality mental health treatment.

The programs are also accessible for free when prescribed by a healthcare professional (i.e., GPs, psychologists, and other mental health professionals). THIS WAY UP encourages clinicians to integrate the programs within their day-to-day practice. Speak to your doctor if you want to benefit from a fee waiver.

Effectiveness of THIS WAY UP Programs

The programs are supported by more than 38 randomised control trials and numerous effectiveness studies. These studies show that the programs are effective in significantly reducing the burden of mental health disorders in both research and in the real-world clinical settings.

Since 2015, THIS WAY UP has been helping over hundreds thousands of people across the country.
